Football season is upon us, and no game day is complete without a tailgate. Tailgating, much like an engagement, is about bringing people together. It’s about sharing moments and stories, and creating memories that last a lifetime. That’s why we set out to learn more about this shared experience.

Nothing complements the communal spirit of tailgating better than a cold beverage in hand. But in a country as vast and diverse as ours, which beer takes the crown in the tailgating arena?

Whether you’re a stout aficionado or a lager lover, everyone has their go-to beverage. So, crack open a cold one and let’s dive into the bubbly world of America’s most searched tailgate drinks!

The Most Popular Tailgate Beverage in Every U.S. State

Blue Moon, with its refreshing and crisp taste, prevails as the most popular beer in 14 states, including its birthplace of Colorado. While its classic flavor resonates across the nation, the brand offers a special “Harvest Pumpkin Ale” during the fall. It’s also a favorite in Minnesota, where a unique 3.2% version is sold in grocery and convenience stores to accommodate local regulations.

While beer might be the beverage of choice for many, five U.S. states showcase their love for High Noon hard seltzer, which stands out in its distillation process. Made with vodka that’s produced from the finest Midwest corn, High Noon ensures they “only work with the highest quality producers in the mid-west,” a testament to their commitment to quality — and what might explain why Kentucky loves it so much.

The iconic Sam Adams beer is more than just a beverage for the state of Massachusetts. Named after Samuel Adams, who inherited his father’s brewery on Boston’s King Street and worked as a brewer, Sam Adams is the flagship brand of the Boston Beer Company and a proud nod to the state’s historical legacy.

Tecate finds its brewing roots in Baja California, Mexico, and its popularity just north in California and Arizona is undeniable. The close geographical and cultural ties between the two regions make Tecate a cherished choice for many.

Pennsylvania has a rich brewing history, with multiple popular breweries originating here. Yuengling, headquartered in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, emerged as the state’s favorite, even surpassing Rolling Rock, which once celebrated its legacy with the “Rolling Rock Town Fair” music festival for five consecutive years.

While the Big Apple might be the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of New York, upstate New York has its own brewing champion in Labatt. With its “innovation brewery” located in Buffalo, Labatt has become the top beer brand in the region, solidifying its place in New York’s brewing legacy.

Budweiser, often referred to as the “King of Beers,” finds its royal roots in Missouri. The state is not just a place where Budweiser started; it’s where the beer’s rich history and iconic status were born.
