The answer to that question is our Care & Cleaning process. Whenever you purchase a piece of jewelry from Shane Co. you are given a Certified Appraisal that looks like this:
Note: Most insurance companies require an updated appraisal every 1, 2, or 3 years. This can cost several hundred dollars if you go to an independent Certified Appraiser to have them update the value of your jewelry. One of the benefits for Shane Co. customers is that we will update your Certified Appraisal for free, for life, with the current market value of your jewelry. This is one of many services we offer when you come in to have your jewelry cleaned and inspected.
You’ll notice at the bottom of the Certified Appraisal there is a section that says “Free Cleaning and Inspection Record”.
We ask that you come in to a Shane Co. location every six months to have your jewelry cleaned and inspected. In addition to maintaining your warranty, this allows us to do several things for you.
Cleaning
Who doesn’t want their jewelry to look stunning? One of the best things about coming in to get your jewelry cleaned is that it feels like you are walking out with a new ring, necklace, bracelet, or earrings! Our thorough cleaning process involves an ultra-sonic bath in a special cleaning solution to break down the build-up of lotions and oils , on your jewelry. This is followed by a careful hand-cleaning process and finished with a high-pressure steaming to ensure maximum brilliance and sparkle.
Be very careful investing in at-home cleaning solutions!! Not all solutions are created equal and I have seen many beautiful pieces of jewelry ruined by home “cleaning kits.”
Inspection
Equally important in the Care & Cleaning process is the inspection. When you bring your jewelry in to be cleaned, we do a “top-to-bottom” inspection of the piece. We are looking for anything that might lead to future concerns: uneven wear patterns, loose stones, worn prongs, thin shanks (the bottom part of the ring), loose earring backs, and more. By inspecting your jewelry consistently, we are able to be proactive instead of reactive to issues. Think of it as getting an oil change for your car; it is much easier to replace the oil every 5,000 miles than it is to replace an engine due to neglect. Likewise, it is much easier for us to maintain the beauty of your jewelry early on rather than be faced with the loss of a diamond or damage to a piece later on.
Updates
Coming in to have your jewelry cleaned and inspected has additional benefits as well.. We can update your account information in the event that you moved, or we can change your contact preferences in order to ensure that you receive a reminder every six months to have your jewelry cleaned and inspected. Additionally, we can update you on new services that may be of interest to you. For example, many couples love to come back and get their rings engraved with a personalized message. Others are interested in getting a personalized message laser-inscribed on their diamond. Still others want to make sure they are enrolled in the Shane Co.
