Natural Beauty

Natural Beauty

All of our rubies and sapphires are natural gemstones. They are not created or synthesized in a laboratory.

Rubies and sapphires are both corundum-based minerals whose only difference is color.

Color

Color

While rubies are red, sapphire colors vary from blue to yellow, green, pink, orange, white, and even black.

The deeper the color the more desirable and rare the gemstone.

Size

Size

Because carat weight varies greatly among sapphires and rubies with the same diameter, they are measured in millimeters (mm).

A 6.5mm ruby or sapphire is roughly the same diameter as a 1.00-carat diamond.

Cut

Cut

A colored stone’s carat weight is not necessarily an indication of its millimeter size. Two stones with the same millimeter size may have different weights based on how they are cut.

At Shane Co., we cut each colored stone to maximize its sparkle and brilliance, not to maximize its weight as other jewelers do.
