If you’ve decided to propose to the love of your life, congratulations! But now the big question is: where? With so many great options across the U.S., the choice isn’t always simple. Popping the question is one of life’s biggest moments, so it’s natural to want to organize something memorable.
However, the experience doesn’t always have to come with a hefty price tag. A memorable proposal is possible for couples with any budget, whether they choose to organize a mini holiday for it, take a city break, or simply propose at home. But for those looking to make a trip out of it, which destinations across the country cater for every budget?
To help you plan that special moment, we compared major cities across the U.S.. on a range of factors, including affordability, weather and proposal potential, to create a list of the best proposal destinations for all budgets.
The Best Proposal Destinations in the U.S. for Every Budget

Las Vegas, Nevada
Las Vegas, Nevada, takes the top spot as the best destination for proposals in the U.S. Despite having some more expensive options, the city offers something suitable for every budget. A nice meal for two in Las Vegas averages $80, while the cost of an engagement photographer is the lowest of the cities studied, at about $1,270 on average. Not an insignificant cost, but well below the average – and having snaps of the big moment to look back at forever is priceless!
The incredible weather in Las Vegas also contributes to its position at the top. The sun shines for over 10 hours daily on average, and the city has about two rainy days per month – combined, it makes for the best weather of the cities we looked at.
San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio follows in second place. Couples considering the Texan city will be delighted by reasonably priced hotel rooms ($158 a night on average) and an average of $70 for a meal for two in a nice restaurant.
If you fancy a toast to celebrate, Texas is where champagne comes at the best value – perhaps freeing up a little extra money to buy the perfect engagement ring!
Phoenix, Arizona
With an average of more than 10 hours of sun every day, Phoenix, Arizona is the perfect location if you’ve always pictured your proposal set to a backdrop of gorgeous sunshine. The city also has an average of just two rainy days a month, so the likelihood of a downpour spoiling your magical moment is slim.
The average cost of an overnight weekend stay in a hotel is $174, while dinner for two in a nice restaurant (about $80) and champagne (about $55) means you can plan an unforgettable evening for a little over $300. If you want to spend a little more to capture the moment, an engagement photographer will set you back $2,200 on average.
The most picturesque proposal destinations in the U.S.

Chicago, Illinois
The diverse landscape of Chicago offers an incredible range of choices for popping the question – and with 13,400 tags, it comes top of our list of the most picturesque proposal locations in the country! Millennium Park’s lush foliage and iconic Cloud Gate sculpture (affectionately known to locals as ‘the Bean’) make it a fabulous choice, while the peaceful seclusion of the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool provides an intimate setting for this most intimate of gestures.
Elsewhere, the Chicago Riverwalk provides a stunning view of the city’s architecture and is a beautiful spot to get down on one knee after a romantic stroll along the riverside.
Miami, Florida
When you think of Miami, you think of beaches – and what better place to propose? The white sands, rolling waves and romantic sunsets of South Beach, Sunny Isles and Surfside create a picture-perfect scene for one of life’s unforgettable moments – and with 10,700 tags, it’s second in our list of picturesque proposal destinations.
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is another great location to consider popping the question, with jaw-dropping architecture and stunning flora, providing a magical atmosphere for when the moment arrives – and an endless array of photo opportunities.
New York City, New York
In third place with over 9,700 tags, we have New York. As one of the most iconic cities in the world, New York’s sheer diversity makes it perfect for a proposal destination – whatever scenario you can imagine, New York will be able to bring it to life.
Central Park alone gives you the choice of Bow Bridge (plan a spring proposal and the cherry blossom will add an extra dash of color to the moment), the tucked-away Wagner Cove pavilion and Bethesda Fountain overlooking The Lake.
Other romantic spots include the Brooklyn Bridge, the Rooftop Garden at the Met and the Rockefeller Center’s famous ice rink – but that barely scratches the surface of the opportunities New York has to offer.
Americans’ favorite engagement rings
The engagement ring symbolizes devotion and commitment to your beloved partner, and the promise of marriage. From the standout sparkle of a classic solitaire to the character of a vintage-inspired design, there are endless shapes and styles to suit every taste.
But which ones capture Americans’ hearts the most? We explored nationwide search trends to uncover the most sought-after choices.

At the top of the list is the emerald-cut diamond, the most popular engagement ring shape among Americans. With 74,000 monthly searches, this rectangular-shape with step-cut facets reigns supreme in 47 states. Providing a timeless elegance, its geometric lines create a striking hall of mirrors effect that feels both sophisticated and unique.
Sharing the number one spot is the oval cut, also with 74,000 monthly searches. Symbolizing everlasting love, balance, and harmony, this romantic cut is admired for its graceful symmetry. The oval engagement ring is also the most popular choice in Iowa, Minnesota, and Rhode Island.
People also love a vintage-style ring, drawing 40,500 searches each month. Vintage-inspired rings beautifully blend the precision of modern craftsmanship with the charm and intricate details of a bygone age, resulting in unique, heirloom-worthy pieces designed to last beyond a lifetime.
How to Organize the Ultimate Proposal
Planning a proposal is one of life’s most exciting moments, but it can feel overwhelming if you don’t know where to start. To help everything go smoothly, here are a few tips for organizing the ultimate proposal.
1. Choosing the right ring
The engagement ring is a lasting symbol of your promise, and choosing the right one is key. Knowing your partner’s preferred style and shape makes all the difference. If you’re unsure, try dropping hints, checking with friends and family, or discreetly comparing it to rings they already own for sizing. But don’t stress – our All-Inclusive Free Lifetime Warranty means you can always visit any of our stores to have the ring resized by one of our expert jewelers.
2. Finding the perfect place to propose
For some, where you propose matters almost as much as the ring itself, creating the atmosphere for a moment you’ll remember forever. Choose a location that reflects your relationship, whether it’s where you first met, a meaningful spot you’ve shared, or a scenic view you’ve always loved. If you’re planning an outdoor proposal, be sure to check the weather to reduce the chance of anything dampening the big day.
3. Capturing the memory
If you’d like to relive the moment for years to come, plan for how you’ll capture it. Hiring an engagement photographer is a great way to remove the stress of snapping photos yourself, and they can guide you with lighting, angles, and timing to ensure stunning shots of your proposal.
4. Prepare a proposal speech — and practice
It’s natural to feel nervous, so having a speech ready can help calm your nerves and make the moment more personal. Practicing ahead of time can give you confidence. But don’t worry if you stumble or get emotional – those raw feelings are what make your proposal truly unforgettable.
5. Celebrating afterwards
Once you’ve popped the question, keep the joy going with a celebration of this new journey you’re embarking on together. Whether it’s an intimate dinner for two or a gathering with friends and family, booking something in advance ensures you’ll have the perfect way to toast this exciting new chapter of your life together.
