Las Vegas, Nevada, takes the top spot as the best destination for proposals in the U.S. Despite having some more expensive options, the city offers something suitable for every budget. A nice meal for two in Las Vegas averages $80, while the cost of an engagement photographer is the lowest of the cities studied, at about $1,270 on average. Not an insignificant cost, but well below the average – and having snaps of the big moment to look back at forever is priceless!
The incredible weather in Las Vegas also contributes to its position at the top. The sun shines for over 10 hours daily on average, and the city has about two rainy days per month – combined, it makes for the best weather of the cities we looked at.
San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio follows in second place. Couples considering the Texan city will be delighted by reasonably priced hotel rooms ($158 a night on average) and an average of $70 for a meal for two in a nice restaurant.
If you fancy a toast to celebrate, Texas is where champagne comes at the best value – perhaps freeing up a little extra money to buy the perfect engagement ring!
Phoenix, Arizona
With an average of more than 10 hours of sun every day, Phoenix, Arizona is the perfect location if you’ve always pictured your proposal set to a backdrop of gorgeous sunshine. The city also has an average of just two rainy days a month, so the likelihood of a downpour spoiling your magical moment is slim.
The average cost of an overnight weekend stay in a hotel is $174, while dinner for two in a nice restaurant (about $80) and champagne (about $55) means you can plan an unforgettable evening for a little over $300. If you want to spend a little more to capture the moment, an engagement photographer will set you back $2,200 on average.

To help future couples, we turned to Instagram to uncover the most picturesque proposal destinations in the country, looking at the results for “#[location]proposal” in each city.
Chicago, Illinois
The diverse landscape of Chicago offers an incredible range of choices for popping the question – and with 13,400 tags, it comes top of our list of the most picturesque proposal locations in the country! Millennium Park’s lush foliage and iconic Cloud Gate sculpture (affectionately known to locals as ‘the Bean’) make it a fabulous choice, while the peaceful seclusion of the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool provides an intimate setting for this most intimate of gestures.

New York City, New York
In third place with over 9,700 tags, we have New York. As one of the most iconic cities in the world, New York’s sheer diversity makes it perfect for a proposal destination – whatever scenario you can imagine, New York will be able to bring it to life.
Central Park alone gives you the choice of Bow Bridge (plan a spring proposal and the cherry blossom will add an extra dash of color to the moment), the tucked-away Wagner Cove pavilion and Bethesda Fountain overlooking The Lake.
