Diamonds were formed deep in the earth under intense heat and pressure, and were carried to the earth's surface in lava from volcanic eruptions that occur three times deeper than most volcanoes, forming kimberlite pipes. Kimberlites, the ancient, underground volcanic pipes that hold most of today's diamonds, are very hard to find. Most of the diamonds mined today come from kimberlites discovered decades ago.

All of Our Natural Diamonds Are Hand-Picked & One of a Kind

We hand-pick all our diamonds for their natural beauty and sparkle. Each rough diamond is assessed and then cut and polished to bring out its unique, inherent beauty. Each stone has a distinct story, just like your relationship. When you give a natural diamond — the ultimate symbol of love — you're not only giving something that's absolutely unique and beautiful, you're giving a symbol of authenticity, conservation, and positive social impact. In fact, according to a recent study, most people consider natural diamonds authentic, romantic, and something that makes them feel special.

Shane Co.'s Natural Diamonds Are All Conflict-Free and Ethically Sourced

The Shane family has been ethically sourcing our diamonds since 1929, when Tom Shane's grandfather opened his first store. You can feel confident your Shane Co. diamond is conflict-free, while also knowing your purchase helped support a community.

Conflict diamonds have been almost completely eliminated from the market because of the UN-mandated Kimberley Process, an international certification process established in 2003. Through the Kimberley Process, 82 countries work cooperatively to prevent conflict diamonds from entering the rough diamond trade. Today, the Kimberley Process also focuses on addressing the social and economic challenges affecting diamond communities.

Since the Kimberley Process’s inception, the percentage of conflict diamonds in the global diamond trade has declined to significantly less than 1%. That said, Shane Co. has never sold any conflict diamonds. The Shane family travels to the diamond capitals of the world — Antwerp, Tel Aviv, and Mumbai — to buy diamonds directly from diamond cutters who don’t deal in conflict diamonds. Since the Shane family’s first store opened in 1929, this practice has never changed.
