{"id":223,"date":"2011-10-16T16:54:21","date_gmt":"2011-10-16T16:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.shaneco.com\/theloupe\/?p=223"},"modified":"2017-08-22T00:59:56","modified_gmt":"2017-08-22T00:59:56","slug":"first-date-blue-per","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shaneco.com\/theloupe\/shane-co\/tom-shanes-world\/first-date-blue-per\/","title":{"rendered":"First Date Blue-Per"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019re currently wrapping up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/shanecompany\">Facebook contest<\/a> called \u201cRelationship Blue-pers,\u201d and I thought it would be a good idea to share my own embarrassing story. We had some really great submissions and I\u2019m not sure if mine competes with them, but here we go\u2026 As a single man, I finally decided to get my own bachelor pad.\u00a0 My first real downtown loft, a year lease, and it\u2019s all mine.\u00a0 Day one of the move in happens to also be a day where I start talking to this pretty girl.\u00a0 Feeling pretty good about myself, I invite her over to see my new place that evening.\u00a0 Surprisingly, she accepts my offer.<\/p>\n<p>After work I scramble home, and try to make a place I\u2019ve lived in for less than 24 hours look nice\u2026or at least clear enough things off of the couch where 2 people can sit down.\u00a0 A knock on the door, and what do you know, she actually showed up.\u00a0 So a quick tour of the new pad, and then to the only available place to sit.\u00a0 After a few minutes I offer to take her to dinner, and receive another surprising acceptance.\u00a0 At this point, I\u2019m totally pumped up, and am thinking that my new place is bringing me all the luck in the world.\u00a0 We had decided on a quick dinner at a casual restaurant that was only a few blocks north of my new place.\u00a0 So we go downstairs and get my car.\u00a0 As we get into the car, we\u2019re talking nonstop, trying to get to know one another.\u00a0 Paying more attention to impressing her than where I was going, I pull out of my parking lot, and head north, of course.\u00a0 Not seconds later, her talking switches into yelling at me, that I\u2019m heading north down the busiest one way southbound street in the entire city.\u00a0 She was panicked, I was humiliated, and I was facing dozens of cars heading right towards us.\u00a0 So, more embarrassed due to the first date situation than frightened, as I should have been, I calmly put my car into reverse, make a 3 point U-turn, and head the correct direction until I pick up the northbound street, one block over.<\/p>\n<p>Finally we get to the restaurant, safe and sound.\u00a0 Regaining my composure, we go up to the counter to order.\u00a0 My date offers to pay, and I smoothly say, \u201cNo I got it, you can pay the next time.\u201d\u00a0 The girl behind the counter blurts out, \u201cWay to secure a second date!\u201d\u00a0 So much for the Rico Suave first date bachelor pad thing.\u00a0 Well, somehow it worked; we started dating that evening, and have now been married for 2 months.\u00a0 Dangerous yes, but certainly a memorable first date.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"We\u2019re currently wrapping up a Facebook contest called \u201cRelationship
