For All Grooms, Everywhere \u2026 Including Myself"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By the time you read this, I will be gone.\u00a0 No, no, no, not like that, but I will be married, and on my honeymoon.\u00a0 I\u2019ll be away from my desk, and my iPhone.\u00a0 No more emails, no phone calls, no business.\u00a0 All of these are very rare things for me.\u00a0 A true vacation, just my new bride and myself.\u00a0 Aside from the minor detail of running a business over the past year, I\u2019ve also been heavily involved in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shaneco.com\/theloupe\/articles-and-news\/tom-shanes-world\/wedding-update\/\">planning for our wedding<\/a>, and I\u2019ve learned a lot from the process.\u00a0 If I could do it all over again, the thought of which is simply exhausting on its own, I would have some advice for myself.\u00a0 So, here it goes\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The first thing that comes to mind is that somehow, someway, everything will get handled\u2026i.e. \u201cIt\u2019ll all be OK.\u201d\u00a0 There are hundreds of books, websites, blogs, pieces of friend\u2019s advice and plenty of other stuff out there that will give \u201cadvice\u201d on how to prepare for a wedding.\u00a0 While well intended, it can surely be overwhelming!\u00a0 Anyhow, my advice is that, it will all get done!\u00a0 And besides, whatever doesn\u2019t get done, will not stop the earth from spinning on its axis.\u00a0 Furthermore, no matter how much you plan, how hard you try, something <strong><em>will<\/em><\/strong> go wrong.\u00a0 Half of our flower vases dropped and shattered last week when getting shipped from the vendor to the florist.\u00a0 The same vases that we approved months ago.\u00a0 Time to reorder? \u00a0I don\u2019t think so.\u00a0 Panic?\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 So back to the florist to pick another style of vase.\u00a0 Not one of our guests will ever know that the vase changed from the original one we selected.\u00a0 Anyhow, you get the point.<\/p>\n<p>Another lesson, and an even more important one in my opinion.\u00a0 It is all too easy to forget that the wedding is not about the party, the music, the flowers, the ceremony itself, or even the guests in attendance.\u00a0 It is about yourself and the person whom you are choosing to spend the rest of your life with.\u00a0 It is easy, and I admit I got caught up in the action dozens of times, to concern yourself with everything \u00a0\u201celse\u201d.\u00a0 The \u201cother\u201d, or anything that\u2019s not concerning the whole reason the wedding is taking place in the first place (the couple) is merely a means to an end, a way of gathering those around you to declare your lifelong intentions.\u00a0 The process goes by all too quickly anyhow, and not taking the time to realize what the reasoning behind it all can really be a pity.\u00a0 So, after the band stops playing, after the candles burn out, after the guests fly home, after \u201dnormal\u201d life resumes, be sure your memories were of a time where you were able to strengthen your relationship with each other, not over the big fight you had whether Aunt Sally should sit to the right or the left of Uncle Bill.<\/p>\n<p>I think that if I would have been given the above two pieces of advice, and been astute enough to abide by them, the entire process would have been seamless.\u00a0 Well not quite, but you get the idea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"By the time you read this, I will be gone.\u00a0 No, no, no, not like that, but
