Ruby & Sapphire Studs 101
Color stone stud earrings are sold by total carat weight (TCW), which is the combined weight of both stones, and millimeter size (mm), which is the approximate width of each earring in the pair.
Stud Sizes & Stone Colors
We have ruby and sapphire studs in a wide range of sizes from under one-quarter carat total weight to six carats total weight. In addition to studs with round rubies, we offer round sapphire studs in 10 colors: traditional blue, ice blue, Kentucky blue, pink, lavender, green, orange, yellow, white, and black. Our ruby and sapphire studs are available in your choice of either 14k white gold or yellow gold settings.
Hand-Picked & Matched
The rubies and sapphires for our stud earrings are hand-picked by Tom Shane in Bangkok, where the world’s finest rubies and sapphires are found. Tom has most of the stones recut on the spot to maximize their beauty. The gemstones are put into groups of the same color, shape, and millimeter size. Then our own color stone experts examine the stones individually within each group in order to make pairs. We demand that each pair of studs has two stones with the same color, hue, shade, sparkle, and brilliance. We look at each potential pair in natural sunlight and under artificial light to be sure they will appear identical once mounted into our earring settings. Shane Co. only sells natural gemstones, never lab-created, which have no intrinsic value.
